In 1943, during World War 2, Minnie Pearl Allen was one of 9 children born to an African Methodist pastor and young cotton field working mother. By the time she was 15, her mother died and she was pregnant with her 1st child while helping to raise her youngest siblings. When her father remarried, her stepmother pressured her father to send her child away. Revisiting her old home sparked a conversation about a traumatic upbringing, alcoholism, and how to forgive others and herself.
